YOUTH LIVESTOCK DAIRY GOATS-SPECIAL RULES

Youth Show:  August 25, 2010

Entries:  Entry Deadline - August 1, 2010

Fees:  $8.00 will be charged for each class entered in the Dairy Goat Youth Division.  There is no fee for Showmanship classes.  There is no Buyer’s Appreciation Fee for Dairy Goat entries.

Dairy Goat Arrival and Check-in:  August 25, 2010 at 7 a.m.

Dairy Goat Release Time: At conclusion of Dairy Goat Show

Health Requirements

a. ALL dairy goats MUST have:
i. New Mexico Health Certificate within 30 days. Certificate must be presented before unloading.
ii. The  New Mexico Livestock Board (NMLB) requires all in-state Junior Livestock to have a NMLB fair tag and a Form 1 inspection certificate.
iii. Sexually intact dairy goats 6 months of age or older must have a Negative TB test within 90 days of any exhibition, including the Valencia County Fair,  unless from a New Mexico Accredited TB-free herd.
iv. All sexually intact goats must have either a scrapies tag or a breed registration tattoo.
v. Be sure to check New Mexico Livestock Board Health Rules for any additional requirements!

b. Goats with any of the following conditions shall not be exhibited and must be removed immediately from the exhibition area:
i. Lesions of contagious ecthyma (sore mouth)
ii. Active lesions of ringworm with resulting loss of hair
iii. Caseous lymphadenitis as evidenced by draining abscesses
iv. Any open or draining abscess
v. Any observable contagious disease

Special Rules
1. Rules:
a. All rules governing livestock in the General Rules and Regulations and Junior Livestock rules apply to this department.

b. Animals shown in the youth department must have been continuously by the exhibitor not less than 90 consecutive days prior to the opening day of the Fair and must have been declared in writing on Dairy Goat Declaration Day. 

i. Any exhibitor who wishes to show a dairy goat that has not been born by the day of tagging must register by August 1, 2010 and declare on that day.  As soon as they are able to be tattooed, contact the Superintendent to record the tattoo.  A NMLB tag must be acquired for the goat as well.

c. Declarations to show include the classes being entered.

d. Entries are limited to does and wethers.  Bucks are not allowed to show.

e. Any dairy goats with horns must have those horns tipped to be at least the size of a dime. 

2. Entry Regulations:
 All animals must be entered in the name of the owner.
 All entries must be individually tattooed.
 The animal’s tattoo must be legible or the entry will be disqualified.
 Dairy goats are not required to be registered.

3. Attire:
 Exhibitors are required to be neatly and appropriately attired. Exhibitors may wear white shirts and denim jeans or dairy colors while exhibiting.

Showmanship
To be eligible for the Dairy Goat Showmanship competition, the goat being shown must also be shown in the appropriate Dairy Goat Class.  The Exhibitor must own the animal.  Judging will be based on Care and fitting of the animal, showmanship ability of the exhibitor, training, conduct in the show ring and exhibitor dress.
