GUIDE FOR LIVESTOCK EXHIBITORS 2010 SEASON
All in state junior livestock (cattle, sheep, goats and swine) showing at New Mexico fairs must have a NMLB APPROVED fair tag furnished by the NMLB and a Form 1 inspection issued by the NMLB before entering any county or state fair. All out of state livestock must comply with New Mexico import requirements. The Form 1 inspection will be issued at the time the NMLB APPROVED tag is placed in the animal, tags will be issued by the NMLB. The application of the tag will be done by the extension agent, FFA advisor or fair personnel. All animals must be tagged no later than July 15th. The purpose of these requirements is to keep on file a record of animals that are commingled at fairs and shows.
CATTLE
Proof of ownership (NMLB “Form 1” inspection certificate) must accompany the animal when traveling; this will assure that all requirements have been met.

Brands:
1.All in state show cattle must be branded with a New Mexico registered brand; if not that of the brand’s registered owner, a bill of sale and a letter of permission from the brand’s owner is required.
2.Fresh brands are not allowed – the brand must be “peeled and healed”.
3.A freeze brand does not qualify as a New Mexico registered brand.
4.Cattle may be shown with the originating herd’s New Mexico registered brand with a bill of sale and a letter of permission from that brand owner.
5.Certificates of Brand Exemption are allowed only on registered breeding cattle under that ownership. Steers do not qualify for a Certificate of Brand Exemption.
All breeding bulls require a negative trichomoniasis test.
All cattle are required to have a negative T.B.
Steers must have a negative T.B. test 1 test is good for the calendar show season
All sexually intact cattle over 4 months of age must have a negative T.B. test no more than 120 days prior to exhibition.
ACCREDITED TB FREE HERD STATUS WILL BE RECOGNIZED.
SHEEP AND GOATS
Proof of ownership (NMLB “form 1” inspection certificate) must accompany the animal when traveling; this will assure that all requirements are met.
The following requirements must be met:
1. A NMLB APPROVED fair ear tag provided by the NMLB and a Form 1 inspection issued by the NMLB.
Sexually intact sheep and goats must have an official USDA scrapie tag and/or breed registration tattoo. All intact goats must have a scrapie tag prior to TB testing.
This rule applies to all species and breeds entered in junior shows.
Due to the nature of tuberculosis and the low risk of susceptibility in sheep;
sheep will not require a TB test.
Sexually intact goats >-6 months must have a negative TB test within 120 days of the exhibition.
Accredited TB free herd status will be recognized.
HORSES
Proof of ownership must accompany the animal; either an NMLB “Form 1” certificate of inspection, or a 1-H permanent inspection card;
A current negative Coggins test is required on all out of state horses.
Any horse arriving from out-of-state must be accompanied by a current health certificate.
All breeding stallions must be accompanied by a negative Equine Viral Arteritis (EVA) test.
SWINE
Proof of ownership must accompany the animal (NMLB “Form 1” inspection certificate) .
Inspection must be completed prior to July 15th of current year.
All health and ID requirements must be met.
All swine from out-of-state must receive an import inspection at destination and must be accompanied by the original or a copy stamped and verified by an NMLB inspector official, certificate of veterinary inspection (CVI) and import permit.
ADDITIONAL RULES
1)No copies or faxed copies of TB test charts (VS Form 6-22) or health certificates will be accepted unless signed by the veterinarian (who administered the test) in blue ink certifying the copy. The exhibitor must bring these documents to fair check-in.
2)NMLB approved regulatory identification is required for all test eligible animals, regardless of species or breed.
3)Any clinical signs or evidence of an infectious and/or contagious disease will result in that animals immediate removal from the fair grounds.
4)Out of state equine and livestock entries must adhere to New Mexico entry requirements and all current New Mexico fair entry requirements. Please call the NMLB office for state entry requirements.
ANY ANIMAL, ARRIVING AT A SHOW OR FAIR, FOUND NOT TO BE IN COMPLIANCE WITH NEW MEXICO STATE STATUTES OR LIVESTOCK BOARD RULES WILL BE SENT HOME AND GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO BECOME COMPLIANT FOR FUTURE SHOWS AND FAIRS.
